TANGALAN, Aklan — The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Tangalan is once again making waves in local governance as it vies for the prestigious Local Legislative Award (LLA), emerging as Aklan’s sole contender in the 4th–6th class municipality category.

Recently, the Provincial Awards Committee conducted an on-site evaluation of the 19th Sangguniang Bayan, headed by former Vice Mayor Gene T. Fuentes. The assessment covered seven key areas:

1. Responsiveness of the Legislative Agenda

2. Availability of Legislative Documents

3. Effectiveness of Performance of the Sanggunian

4. Efficiency of Performance of the Sanggunian

5. Legislative Citations and Awards

6. Capacity Development for Legislators and Staff

7. Legislative Innovations

Tangalan’s legislative body received favorable feedback from validators across all areas, citing its high level of compliance and performance. The committee noted that these achievements reflect the commitment and hard work of the entire council under Fuentes’ leadership.

With this strong showing, SB Tangalan is set to represent Aklan at the regional level, aiming to surpass its previous year’s performance where it secured 2nd runner-up.

The Local Legislative Award is a nationwide recognition given by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine Councilors’ Laegue (PCL) to outstanding municipal councils that demonstrate excellence in local legislation.

As the regional judging approaches, Tangalan remains hopeful of bringing home an even higher honor this year.
